Surrendering Your Pet

Pet Surrender & Rehoming Information

At Grey Face Rescue, our mission is to keep pets in their homes whenever possible. We offer a variety of resources to help you manage challenges with your pet and avoid surrendering them. That said, we understand there are situations where rehoming a pet may be the best—or only—option, whether due to personal circumstances or finding a stray.

About Our Surrender Process

Grey Face Rescue is a foster-based organization, which means we do not have a physical shelter. Because of this, we must evaluate our current foster home availability before accepting any animals into our care.

To begin the process, please complete our Pet Surrender/Return Application (see below). This application provides the essential information we need to determine whether we can place your pet in our foster network.

Please Note: Submitting an application does not guarantee that we can accept your pet into our program. However, if we are unable to take your pet, we are happy to provide additional resources, including training tips and other rehoming support.

Animals We Cannot Accept

While we wish we could help every animal, we are unable to accept pets that meet any of the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates animal aggression, including pets that must be the only animal in the home due to behavior issues

  • Exhibits human aggression, including aggression toward children or adults

  • Has a history of multiple bites to people or other animals

  • Is classified as a Dangerous Dog or Potentially Dangerous Dog by the county

  • Suffers from severe separation anxiety

  • Cats that regularly urinate or defecate outside of the litter box

  • Animals from outside the state of Minnesota

If you're unsure whether your pet qualifies or if you'd like to explore alternatives to surrender, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help however we can.

Criteria for Surrendering to Grey Face Rescue

Grey Face Rescue is a foster-based rescue, which means we rely on the availability of foster homes to accept new animals into our program. Because of this, we cannot guarantee immediate placement or provide a specific timeframe for when space may become available.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to find the best placement for each pet.
